It's always been hard to find people to play with.
Seems like most Kaillera users fall into a few categories:
1) Kids (I say "kids" because they act hyper and immature... for all I know they are in their late 30's) who only want to play a handful of "recent" popular games (usually the VS. fighters like Marvel Vs. Capcom, but mostly King of Fighters 98+ and Street Fighter Alpha 2), to a lesser extent Super Smash Bros. on the N64 and Winning Eleven (Soccer game) on the PSX.
2) People who think that .64 was the greatest thing since sliced bread and a holy icon that must never be tampered with (ironically most of them use a "Hacked to support more games" version of .64). Apparently they do this because of #1 and because they use ANCIENT computers.
3) Excitable young gamers who don't speak a word of english (if you're lucky, they can say the "F" word at you).
4) Old school gamers that like games besides VS. Fighters and once popular N64 titles, that may even be bothered to download games they haven't played before, in order to try them out with people online.
#4 has always been rare. I remember back in the day, when CPS2 was first cracked and supported by Kaillera, all anyone ever wanted to play was Dungeons and Dragons. Then when D&D 2 was supported, all they wanted to play was that (even though the game was unstable and crashed before you could win it). Now with auto save you can complete it and the popularity has dried up. But if you want to play nowadays, people seem to just sit around waiting to challenge you to King of Fighters or SFA2 or Smash Bros.
If you don't want to play only those games, it's hard. I feel your pain! The best thing is to just get contact with somebody ahead of time, go to the server together and just play. Trying to convince people to join you is usually just a waste of time.
