Can not load roms with mame32k

Postby ovalent » Fri Oct 11, 2002 5:47 am

Hi,
I have a PII 350 / 128M ram computer with Win NT 4. And i can not load roms. When i try to do this the popup loader apears and stay freezed. I use mame32k.exe or mame32kpp.exe (that come with kaillera 0.9 client). Nevertheless with mame32.exe 0.61 (the original version) i have any problems.
Somebody have an idea ?

Thanks for your attention.

O.

Are you talking about loading roms offline or online ?

the problem occurs when i doubke klick on the selected game (offline) or when i want to launch an online game - when i click to "start game".
In both case the load window appears and stay freeze and empty.

Maybe it can not unzip the roms. I need to register the zip32.dll under Win NT ?

Have you tried running unzipped roms to see if that would work ? if it still doesn't then it isn't a unzip dll problem.

Im trying to help narrow things down. A computer isn't like a console you know. There could be many things wrong with mame on his computer......

Acually it sounds like you don't have enough memory. Let me guess you have 128 or less?

Hi,
Well i tried to run mame32k on 3 PC :
- Wint NT 4 128 Mg ram PII 400 => bug (freeze on r0m loading window)
- Wint NT 4 192 Mg ram PII 350 => bug (freeze on r0m loading window)
- Win 2k 256 Mg ram PIII 500 => no bug

mame32k need 256 Mg ram for work ?

Nope, ram requirement depends entirely on the size of the r0m you are trying to load. I used to have 64mb of ram and some big games took ages to load. But they still worked.... eventually :)

I believe it's actually WinNT that mame32k has a problem with. In my efforts to steal time at work, I've encountered the same obstacle.

My workstation:

pIII 850mhz
128 sdram
WinNT 4.0

I've noticed that Mame32 .65 loads roms successfully. It's just the kaillera version that I'm having issues with.
Anyone have any suggestions?

The latest mame32k client (the one advertised on TFR's site) is based on Mame .64. So its possible that those roms you're using are from another mame version (roms do change with each version after all).

Check http://www.mame.dk in their "changed roms" section, for the mame versions and see if the game you're having problems with has changed from .64-.67.

You shouldn't have to unzip the roms, just put them all (zipped) with the proper r0m names in your /roms folder. You should do a "full audit" in Mame32 to check and see if all your roms are present and correct (this will also identify corrupted zips).

I'm not sure about Windows NT though, never tried to run mame on it.
Set your mojob mame color in display to match your stupid ass desktop color to avoid black screen in netplay, fukaz. t(';'t -TFR, AD 2-20-02
