Volume very low in some games

Postby IceMaster » Sun Jun 11, 2006 7:11 am

In many games, I have very low volume, and I can't figure out why. To name a couple, D&D: Shadow Over Mystara, X-Men. In other games, the sound volume is fine. Examples... Metal Slug 2, Ninja Gaiden.

My volume attenuation is at 0dB globally.

In these games, the volume is set to max in the service menu. But it's extremely quiet; I have to turn my speakers way up to hear anything at all, and any other sound my computer happens to make is deafening.

I've spoken with my brother, and he has normal volume in these games and others that give me a problem. I wish MAME32 had an option to actually increase volume, not just decrease. What can I do about this?

Actually, there is a way to fix this.

In some games, you can go into the dipswitches menu, and go set "Test Switch" to on.

Then you will be able to find a volume switch there...

After changing the volume, turn the dipswitch "Test Switch" off.

Good tip. I discovered this myself some time ago and it's helped immensely!
